Size

Size – This is a type of glue such as Rabbit skin glue that reduces the absorbency of paper and canvas and is also used to prepare a surface ready for gilding.

1. In the manufacture of watercolour paper, size is added into the cotton rag and water mix and/or applied to the surface in differing quantities depending on the surface type of the paper and determines how the watercolour pools and dries on the surface.

2. Canvas should be coated in size prior to the application of paint to stop the oil from decaying the canvas fibres and making them brittle.

3. Both Acrylic and Oil Gold Size remain tacky for long periods allowing metal leaf to be applied.
