Soft Mixing White

The three most popular white shades in artists’ paints are Titanium White, Zinc White and Soft Mixing White. They serve different purposes in painting depending on the opacity and painting technique. Soft Mixing White is considered the balance between Titanium white which is a very solid, opaque white colour and Zinc White which is the least opaque white and most useful for glazing and tinting. It is a titanium-based white with the softest consistency making it the most suited type of white for creating lighter colours via mixing. The Soft Mixing White of some brands also has a higher oil content which benefits some wet-in-wet painting styles.

Other whites include Flake, Iridescent, Cremnitz and Antique although not all are available in all paint ranges.
