The Making of Art -The Manual

Learn to love a Deadline!

Some Artists thrive on a deadline and some really like to take their time.

It is thought in some quarters that da Vinci painted and re-painted the Mona Lisa over a period of four years carrying the iconic artwork with him wherever he went. It was also over a four year period that Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel but then he did have quite a bit of area to cover!

But the prize must go to Ingres who took almost 12 years – with lots of breaks along the way - to complete his portrait of Madame Moitessier. The portrait was to have included her daughter as a child but she had grown up by the time he got round to it!
