I took this on a recent trip to Rome. Always worth looking up…especially in the Vatican Museums!
This is the Gallery of Maps – a 120m long corridor depicting all the regions in Italy as they were in the 1580s when Pope Gregory XIII commissioned the work. The Maps were created by Danti, a Friar and Geograpgher, who took three years to complete them.
The fantastic ceiling was the work of two other artists – Girolamo Muziano and Cesare Nebbia.
