card of the week main page

Card of the week

Here is a lovely flower card that is simple and fun to make. The 'rosette' can be used to make flowers or fan shapes to decorate other card designs. Mix and match different patterned papers with complimentary colours for exciting 3D effects.

Card of the week

Take one square cream card.
Trim some backing paper to be 5mm smaller than the card all the way round.
Choose a couple of other papers in complimentary colours and cut into strips roughly 3-5cm wide. Start to concertina the paper with each fold at a slight angle so that the paper forms a curve. Let the way the paper folds determine how you incorporate it into your design so that if the paper does not form a full circle or the colours bunch together, adapt the design to suit without wasting any paper.
Take a piece of card from the Core'dinations range and tear to revel the inner core. This can be into either strips, a square slightly smaller than the backing paper size or, as in my design, removing just a corner. Gently sand it in areas to 'distress' it and give it an interesting textural look.
Place your ready made flowers/fans onto the core'dinations card. If you want a flower or fan to be completely flat, spray the back with Spray Mount and press down. If you want the 'petals' to stand away from the surface, use a brad pushed through the flowers and the core'dinations card to anchor it.
Use Spray Mount to stick the core'dinations and attached flowers/fans to the card blank.
I have then used Tulip 3D paint to create a 'stitched' effect, cut another piece of core'dinations into leaf and tendril shapes and sanded to create a distressed effect and added a message from the Papermania Accent sticker range. A small piece of card behind the transparent sticker ties it in with the colour scheme.
